Steph Slater lowered her European record to lead MC 100m Butterfly qualifiers on the penultimate day of the 2014 British Para-Swimming International Meet in Glasgow.
The IPC World S8 silver medallist, who trains at the British Gas National Performance Centre in Manchester, clocked 1:10.01 to progress, touching just 0.22 seconds shy of Jessica Long’s world record.
S9 world champion Amy Marren was fourth into the final off a 1:13.06 while British S10 pair Eleni Papadopoulos (1:12.03) and Gemma Almond (1:12.45) also made the ‘A’ final.
Susie Rodgers will be aiming for a third consecutive MC 50m Butterfly gold at this meet after qualifying in first for the final.
The world silver medallist, who will also be hoping to defend her European title in Eindhoven later this season, eased through in 36.50 ahead of American S7 rival Cortney Jordan (37.45).
There will also be British interest in the men’s MC 50m Fly final with Sascha Kindred (S6, 33.30), Andy Mullen (S5, 38.69) and Matt Walker (S7, 33.71) qualifying in second, third and fourth respectively behind USA’s S5 Paralympic silver medallist Roy Perkins (37.69).
Jon Fox is the third Brit who will be lining up as top qualifier in a final tonight after leading the way in the MC 100m Backstroke.
The world and Paralympic S7 champion touched in 1:10.48 to progress on 960 points while S9 swimmer James Crisp was fourth through with 863 points for his 1:04.86 effort.
Bethany Firth will aim for a third medal in as many days after leading qualifiers in the MC 100m Backstroke.
Firth, who will be eligible to compete for Great Britain from August 2014, clocked a personal best 1:06.69 for 1000 points while S12 world champion Hannah Russell was third through, sealing her first European qualification standard of the meet in 1:09.42.
Chloe Davies (S14, 1:09.50), Steph Millward (S9, 1:13.46) and Alice Tai (S10) also made the ‘A’ final with 15-year old Tai clocking a British record 1:10.53 to progress.
