The penultimate heats session of the 2018 British Para-Swimming International Meet 2018 saw British para-swimmers in fine form with many events being topped by a host nation athlete.
Alice Tai (S8) rounded of the Women’s MC 100m Backstroke heats with a world record swim of 1:09.43, her second of the meet so far, and amassed a point’s total of 1159. Tai’s time was also inside the consideration standard for the European Championships.
Fresh from her victory in the S14 skins event, Bethany Firth (S14) ranked second after her 100m Back heats with 927 points, that swim was also inside the European Championship consideration time.
Hot on the heels of Firth was Paralympic champion, Sophie Pascoe (S10) of New Zealand her score of 896 points puts her right in the mix to contest the medals this evenings.
Also returning to the Ponds Forge pool for the 100m Backstroke finals is Hannah Russell (S12), Jessica-Jane Applegate (S14) and Abby Kane (S13).
In the Men’s MC 100m Backstroke it was Great Britain’s Jordan Catchpole who topped the rankings, his time and points total of 1:02.33 and 859, give him a commanding lead for this evening’s final.
Catchpole’s time is also under the qualifying standard for Dublin 2018.
Fellow Brits Oliver Hynd and Jacob Leach placed fourth and fifth respectively will also swim again for a place on the World Series podium.
Off the back of her 50m Butterfly Commonwealth title, Eleanor Robinson (S6) came out on top after the one lap race of the and touched for 862 points with a time of 37.28.
Andrew Mullen laid down a marker in the Men’s MC 50m Butterfly, he ranked third with 724 points, behind Colombian swimmers Nelson Crispin and Carlos Serrano Zarate.
In the Women’s MC 100m Butterfly S14 swimmer Jessica-Jane Applegate will lead the challenge for the World Series medals after she topped the board with a total 973 points. Also in the mixed for Great Britain is Louise Fiddes, Bethany Firth and Toni Shaw.
The final event of the day three morning heats session was the Men’s MC 100m Butterfly, Stephen Clegg scored 913 but was edged out of the number one spot by Japan’s Dai Tokairin and his 929 points.You can see a full list of the results here.
