Day two heats sets up exciting finals session

Day two heats of the British Para-Swimming International Meet served up a session of elite level racing and set up a an exciting night of finals action.

The Women’s MC 50m Free got day two underway with Rio 2016 Paralympic silver medallist, Sophie Pascoe (S10) of New Zealand topped the board with a total of 911 points Paralympic Champion Aurelie Rivard, also S10, was hot on her heels with 901 points.

Hannah Russell (S12) was the highest ranking Brit in the 50m Freestyle, a time of 28:34 totalled 855 pints and will be back to contest the medals this evening.

Fresh from his gold medal in the 100m Free on day one, Brazil’s Daniel Dias (S5) returned to the pool in the Men’s MC 50m Freestyle and achieved the highest points total of 946 after eight heats.

Ryan Crouch (S9) was the only British representation in the top after his swim in the final heat, he posted a time of 27.24 and a 785 points total.

Maisie Summers-Newton, was back in action after her World record swim on the opening night of competition, she went in the Women’s MC 200m Individual Medley and ranked second just behind Uzbekistan’s Fotimakhon Amilova, with a time of 3:05.53 and 910 points.

Eleanor Simmonds has returned to the British Para-Swimming International Meet since 2016, she placed third after the 200m IM heats and is also back in action this evening to race for the podium.

In the Men’s MC 200m Individual, British S14 swimmer Jordan Catchpole was the top British qualifier after the heats with a points total 816 and a time 2:18.00.
