Bethany Firth and Nicole Lough set up an exciting final showdown after qualifying first and second from the MC 100m Breaststroke heats on the opening day of the 2014 British Para-Swimming International Meet in Glasgow.
SB9 world silver medallist Harriet Lee also qualified strongly in fourth, clocking 1:20.70 to progress while British trio Liz Johnson (SB6), Claire Cashmore (SB8) and Charlotte Henshaw (SB6) also made the A final.
Hannah Russell will be aiming to go one better than her silver from 12 months ago after qualifying in second for the women’s MC 100m Freestyle final.
The 17-year old was within half a second of her S12 British record as she touched in 1:01.20 (869 pts) to progress behind USA’s 12-time S8 Paralympic gold medallist Jessica Long (1:07.33 – 926 pts).
British S14 swimmer Jessica-Jane Applegate was the top performer from the heats, touching in 1:00.93 for 993 points, but will not progress to the final as the 100m Freestyle is not an event in her classification at this summer’s IPC Swimming European Championships.
Jonathan Fox was the top British qualifier in the men’s 100m Freestyle as he touched in 1:03.81 for 846 points to progress in third while SB14 British record holder Scott Quin reached the men’s MC 100m Breaststroke A final in sixth after scoring 856 points for his 1:10.24 effort.
