Bethany Firth sailed under the S14 200m Freestyle world record as she closed in on her fourth gold medal of the 2014 British Para-Swimming International Meet in Glasgow.
Having already claimed the MC 100m Back, 100m Breast and 200m IM titles, the City of Newcastle swimmer – who will be eligible to compete for Great Britain from August 2014 – clocked 2:08.15 to lead qualifiers to the MC 200m Free final.
Great Britain’s Chloe Davies (S14) was second fastest through in 2:16.03 while World and Paralympic S14 champion Jessica-Jane Applegate reached the final fourth fastest in 2:17.57.
Ellie Simmonds will aim to finish her competition on a high after qualifying first for the MC 400m Freestyle final.
The world and Paralympic S6 champion won her heat with 924 points for her time of 5:27.64.
Hannah Russell (S12) – who won MC 100m Backstroke bronze last night – was third into the final in 4:54.60 while Tully Kearney (S10), Steph Millward (S9), Amy Marren (S9) and Susie Rodgers (S7) also progressed.
Great Britain will go for a clean sweep of the podium in the men’s MC 400m Freestyle after Oliver Hynd (S8), Jon Fox (S7) and Josef Craig (S8).
Hynd clocked 4:30.81 to lead the way on 949 points while Fox progressed in 4:49.28 (898 pts) and Craig clocked a PB 4:38.47 (872 pts).
Andrew Mullen (S5) will aim to defend his MC 50m Backstroke title after dominating the heats.
The 17-year old touched in 39.52 to lead qualifiers on 694 points and secure his European qualification standard in the process.
Tom Hamer (S14) was the fastest Brit through in the men’s MC 200m Freestyle, touching in 2:03.80 to progress third overall.
Another three British S14 swimmers made the cut for the ‘A’ final in the form of Craig Rodgie (2:04.87), Ben Procter (2:04.91) and Jack Thomas (2:05.03).
