Fox forced to pull out of Europeans

Paralympic Champion Jonathan Fox has been forced to withdraw from the IPC Swimming European Championships due to a shoulder injury.

Fox has been receiving extensive treatment but the decision was made that he needed more time in order to be ready for the vital 2015 pre-games season.

Fox said: “I’ve been swimming competitively for over 10 years and this is the first time I’ve had to make the really hard decision to pull out of a competition.

“It’s really disappointing not to be competing at the Europeans but after speaking to my coaches and the medical team this is the right decision to make sure it doesn’t reoccur. I now have to focus on working on my weaknesses so it doesn’t happen again and stop me going to the World Championships or Rio.

“I’d like to thank everyone for their support and wish the team good luck in Eindhoven.”

Head Coach Rob Greenwood said: “Due to a shoulder injury Jon has been withdrawn from the European Championships. Jon will continue to be supported by our medical team in his rehab as we work to ensure he has made a full recovery for the IPC World Championships in Glasgow next year.”
