Fox impresses in Glasgow

Jonathan Fox came back to competition with a bang winning the 100m Backstroke on the second day of competition at the British Para-Swimming International Meet.

 The Paralympic Champion also set a qualification time for the Rio 2016 Paralympic Games.

The S7 swimmer hit the time in the heats touching in 1:10.48 but went 1:10.22 in the final to also win the gold medal. He swam an excellent race to impress in Glasgow.

Ollie Hynd (Nova Centurion) and James Crisp (City of Sheffield) also set the qualification times in the S8 and S9 classifications after touching in 1:05.27 and 1:04.24 respectively.

In the women’s 100m Backstroke Hannah Russell (Woking) set a qualification time in the S12 classification with a time of 1:07.07.

Bethany Firth (Ards) secured the time to be considered for the Rio 2016 Paralympic Games after touching the wall in 1:05.65.

North Ayrshire’s Abby Kane hit the selection criteria for the S13 classification for the Games after finishing in 1:11.19.

Stephanie Slater, who is based at the National Performance Centre in Manchester, also hit the qualifying standard after touching the wall in a time of 1:19.59.

Suzanne Warren (S4, Team Ipswich) won the women’s 50m Backstroke with a time of 1:05.98 and a total of 397. Sophie Woodward (Nova Centurion) finished in second with Kayleigh Haggo (South Ayrshire) in third place.
