Thomas Hamer (Manchester Aquatics) went in the Men’s MC 200m Freestyle event where he equalled the S14 world record on the opening morning of the British Summer Championships 2017 in Sheffield.

The Paralympic silver medallist swam a strong morning heat to qualify first for tonight’s final, matching the world record time of 1:56.27 set by Russia’s Viacheslav Emelianstev’s at the 2015 World Championships in Glasgow.

Jessica-Jane Applegate (UEA Norwich) was another Paralympic medallist who impressed in the heats. The 21-year-old secured lane four for tonight’s Women’s MC 200m Freestyle final after a dominant display this morning.

The Men’s MC 400m Freestyle heats saw Paralympic champion Ollie Hynd (Nova Centre) top the rankings as he chases down his own world record set at last year’s Paralympic Games.

Nine-time Paralympic medallist Stephanie Millward (Corsham) qualified fastest in the Women’s MC 400m Freestyle as she looks to try and book herself a place at a third World Para Swimming Championships.

The British Summer Championships is the trials event for Para-Swimmers hoping to qualify for the British team that will compete at the 2017 World Para Swimming Championships in Mexico City at the end of September.
