Hamer sets European marker

Great Britain’s Thomas Hamer (S14) delivered an impressive heat swim in the Men’s 100m Freestyle to lead the rankings on the opening day of the British Para-Swimming International Meet.

Hamer set a new European record and lowered his own British record to 53.75, setting the highest points total of the morning, 986.

Fellow Brits Jack Thomas (S14) was hot on his heels as he recorded 924 points and a time of 54.92 and Jordan Catchpole (S14) scored 905 with his time of 55.29.

Paralympic Champion Steph millward (S8) is in command in the 100m Freestyle after securing 901 points for her swim after touching in a time of 1:06.99. Paralympic Champion Hannah Russell (S12) is in second place after her time of 1:06.62 scored a total of 894 points

Norway’s Paralympic Champion Sarah Louise Rung of Norway topped rankings after the heats of the Women’s 100m breaststroke.

Rung continued her ever fine form and posted a points total of 917 to qualify first for tonight’s final. Maisie Summers-Newton (S6) of Northampton qualified second fastest, her new personal best time of 1:39.78 and clocked 861 points on the touch.

GB’s Rio silver medallist Rebecca Redfern posted a time of 1:17.76 and 808 points to qualify in third.

The final event of the day one heats of the British Para-Swimming International meet was the Men’s 100m Breaststroke, Brit Conner Morrison topped the board with a time of 1:08.13 and 922 points.

Scott Quin will join Morrison as the second fastest qualifier as he scored 921 points from a time of 1:08.17.

Uzbek swimmer Firdevsbek Musabekov joins in them in third, his time 1:06.43 scored 876.
