Tully Kearney closed in on a memorable golden hat-trick with her third European record on the final day of the Glasgow 2015 IPC Swimming World Championships at Tollcross.
The 18-year old has enjoyed a breakthrough international meet in Scotland, setting European records to land then S9 100m Butterfly and S9 400m Freestyle titles on the past two nights.
And Kearney claimed her third European marker in as many days as she qualified fastest for the SM9 200m Individual Medley final, touching in 2:32.94 to lead qualifiers by more than seven seconds with Ireland’s Ellen Keane (2:40.53) second fastest.
James Crisp also reached the SM9 200m Individual Medley after winning his heat on the final morning session. Competing at his sixth IPC Swimming World Championships, the 32-year old came home in 2:24.29 to progress fourth fastest overall.
Ellie Simmonds and Sascha Kindred both made smooth progress from their respective S6 100m Freestyle heats.
Kindred clocked the second fastest time of his career to qualify fifth fastest in the men’s event in 1:10.09 while Simmonds was fourth fastest overall after a 1:17.13 effort as Ukraine’s Yelyzaveta Mereshko lowered the world record to 1:12.36.
Glasgow-born Andrew Mullen was also in 100m Freestyle action, qualifying fourth fastest in the S5 classification after a 1:19.42 effort while Jessica-Jane Applegate was second fastest through from the S14 100m Backstroke heats after touching in a personal best 1:08.13.
Finally, 16-year old Alice Tai narrowly missed out on reaching the S10 400m Freestyle final as she clocked 4:56.84 to place ninth with the Netherlands’ Marije Oosterhuis claiming the eighth and final qualification spot on 4:48.06.
