Four-time IPC World Champion Amy Marren clocked two British short course records at the first stage of the Essex County Age Group Championships in Basildon.

The 15-year old lowered her S9 British markers over 200m Freestyle and 200m Backstroke at the meet with efforts of 2:16.41 and 2:29.20 respectively.

Marren also clocked personal bests over 50m Butterfly (33.52) and 50m Breaststroke (42.00) as well as reaching the 15-years 100m Backstroke final and finishing fourth amongst able-bodied rivals in 1:10.69.

The teenager – who was named on the top 10 shortlist for last year’s BBC Young Sports Personality of the Year – will compete at April’s British Gas Swimming Championships in Glasgow where she will aim to book a spot on the English team for the Commonwealth Games.

Paralympic champion Jessica-Jane Applegate was also in record breaking form over the weekend as she beat her long course S14 800m Freestyle British record at the Norfolk County Championships.

Competing amongst able-bodied swimmers, the 17-year old finished third overall in the 16 years and over age group in 9:47.29.
