Grace Harvey Next Gen 2025

Para-swimming team confirmed for Singapore World Championships

6 Aug 2025

A 22-strong athlete cohort will attend the 2025 World Para Swimming Championships this September following the addition of ten athletes to the team as part of a final wave of athlete selections.

For the first time in the competition’s history, the World Para Swimming Championships will be held in Asia - with seven days of racing scheduled to take place inside the OCBC Aquatic Centre at the Singapore Sports Hub across 21st-27th September 2025.

The first British athletes to secure their place on the team were unveiled back in April following performances at the Aquatics GB Swimming Championships, while the most recent additions have been made with the second stage of a tough selection process concluding after the recent Aquatics GB Next Gen Championships.

Among the new additions, Paralympic champions Grace Harvey and Bethany Firth add a further depth of major championships experience to the travelling group. Firth will be making her fifth world championships appearance – level with Alice Tai as the most among the team – and does so following the birth of her daughter in August 2024.

Records in Paralympic events have continued to fall in the lead up to the first world championships of the LA cycle, with Poppy Maskill (Women’s S14 100m Butterfly world record), Faye Rogers (Women’s S10 100m Butterfly European record), Iona Winnifrith (Women’s SM7 200m Individual Medley European record), Harry Stewart (SB14 100m Breaststroke European record) and Bruce Dee (SB6 100m Breaststroke British record) all producing new marks at the Next Gen Championships.

Stewart and Dee have subsequently now been invited to join the already selected trio of Winnifrith, Olivia Newman-Baronius and Mark Tompsett as the Paris Paralympians to now be headed towards their maiden world championships - while Roan Brennan, Dylan Broom, Astrid Carroll, Ela Letton-Jones and Kieran Williams have each received their first senior international call ups to complete the list of ten debutants travelling to Singapore.

Meanwhile, Cameron Vearncombe is bound for his third-consecutive world championships after impressing in an eye-catching Men’s MC 200m Individual Medley victory in Sheffield – with the Manchester Performance Centre swimmer taking nearly two and a half second off his lifetime best to meet the SM14 qualification standard.

Tully Kearney has withdrawn from the team as she awaits the opportunity to complete a classification review following surgery to fuse her left wrist.

Speaking on the selections, Aquatics GB lead for para-swimming Adam Clarke said:

“I would like firstly to offer a big congratulations to all the selected athletes on their selection to the team.

“Following the amazing and inspiring success of the team at Paris 2024 I am excited to see both our seasoned international athletes, and a number of athletes new to the senior team compete against the world’s best in Singapore in September. This first World Championships of the post Paris period is a great opportunity to assess where we are in our journey towards the 2028 Los Angeles Paralympics. It promises to be a fantastic showcase of our sport in what is an iconic location”
