Steph Slater won her second silver medal of the competition and set an S8 European 50m Freestyle Record on day two of the British Para-Swimming International Meet 2014 in Glasgow.
The Preston swimmer finished in 30.87 (944 points), putting her within the IPC European Championship qualification time.

A delighted Slater said: “I’m really happy with that swim. I wanted to get under the 31 mark that I did this morning so to get the European record and qualify for the summer is brilliant.
“I didn’t do the 50m Free at the World Championships last year so hopefully it will be a really fun event to swim at Europeans.”
Spain’s Sarai Gascon (S9) took gold (995 points) and the Netherlands’ Summer Ashley Mortimer (S10) took bronze (939 points).
Susie Rodgers (S7) also finished within the European qualifying time in a British Record 33.67 while Hannah Russell (S12) tied her British record of 27.91 in the final.
Bethany Firth (SM14) took her second gold of the competition with a huge 1125 point swim in the 200m Individual Medley. The City of Newcastle athlete, who will be eligible to compete for Great Britain from August 2014, finished in a time of 2:24.89.
Jessica-Jane Applegate (SM14), who had already clocked a European Championship qualifying time with her heat swim earlier in the day, confirmed her nomination with a 2:33.39 (948 points) swim to take silver.
Four-time Paralympic gold medallist Ellie Simmonds (SM6) took bronze, swimming under the qualification time in 3:09.26 (925 points).
Romford Town’s Amy Marren (SM9) and Slater (SM8) both finished under qualification times with times of 2:34.80 and 2:43.77 respectively.
S7 world champion Matt Walker swam close to his 2013 World gold time to take silver in the 50m Freestyle in 28.57 (908 points).
Walker’s City of Manchester Aquatics team mate Phelipe Rodrigues took bronze (878 points) with Spain’s Jose Mari Alcaraz taking gold (914).
Walker said: “I’m really pleased with how my swimming has been going this week. I’ve been working hard and keeping focused and it’s paid off.
“I got the qualification time this morning and tried to go a bit more tonight and although that didn’t pay off, I got the time which is the main thing.
“That’s the time I did to win gold at the Worlds last year so if I can do that now, I’m excited to see what I can swim by the time it gets to Europeans.”
In the men’s 200m Individual Medley Ollie Hynd (SM8) swam under the European qualification time to take silver with 2:26.07 (898 points).
Hynd said: “I would have liked to have been a bit quicker but I was fairly pleased with the time.
“Last week I made the nomination time for the Commonwealth Games so it’s great to have also got the qualification standard for the European Champs today.”
Marc Evers (SM14) from the Netherlands took gold (1010 points) and Azerbaijan’s Dzmitry Salei took bronze (873 points).
Lyndon Longhorne lowered the British SM4 150m Individual Medley record that he set in the heats by over three seconds to 2:53.85. The 18-year old said: “After this morning I didn’t expect to go any faster so it’s brilliant that I’ve been able to lower my time again.”
Other athletes to meet the IPC European Championships qualification time on day two included Sasha Kindred (S6 50m Free, SM6 200m IM), Eleni Papadopoulos (SM10 200m IM), Gemma Almond (SM10 200m IM), Jack Thomas (SM14 200m IM), Craig Harris (SM14 200m IM) and Andy Mullen who swam 20 seconds under the SM5 200m Individual Medley standard in 3:10.79.
