Hamer heads for title defence

Paralympic medallist Tom Hamer will look to defend his MC 200m Freestyle Summer Championship title after a tie for points on the opening morning of heats in Sheffield.

The S14 swimmer who trains at the Para-Swimming National Performance Centre tied on points with Torfaen Dolphins swimmer Dylan Broom, 877 the total. Just 0.04 of a second separated the pair who will go head to head to contest the medals in the final later today.

S14 Jordan Catchpole of the City of Norwich who will make his international para-swimming debut next month completed the top three with 838 points.

In the Men’s 400m Freestyle heats Kyle Chisholm of Stockport Metro was top of the pile in the 19/Over age group, the opening event of the 2018 British Summer Championships.

Luke Turley headed up the 17/18 years age group with Samuel Osbourne and Jakob Goodman of the City of Birmingham and Millfield School respectively hot on his heels.

City of Leicester swimmer William Bell is in command going into the 16 years age group final after he posted the fasted time of the morning.

Edward Mildred of Northampton was quickest to the touch of the 15 years athletes and the top-ranked swimmer in the 13/14 years age group was Jacob Whittle of Derventio.

In the Women’s MC 200m Freestyle, City of Manchester’s Tully Kearney (S5) topped the board in the opening para-swimming event of the week with a point’s tally of 857.

Jessica-Jane Applegate (S14) who swims for City of Norwich was close behind with 841 and fellow S14 swimmer Louise Fiddes representing Hatfield ranked third with 765 points.

All three, bound for this summer’s World Para Swimming Allianz European Swimming Championships in Dublin will race again this evening alongside Danielle Hartin (S14) of Basildon Phoenix.

2016 Olympian Georgia Coates will be looking to top the podium for the 19/Over years Women’s 200m Freestyle after she served up a strong morning heats swim.

Stockport Metro’s Elizabeth Harris edged ahead of the field in the 17/18 years category and Rachel Anderson of Millfield School touched home ahead of the 16 years age group to take the centre lane in tonight’s final.

Derventio swimmer Mia Slevin will lead the field out in the 15 year old final whilst Freya Colbert, who represents Nova Centurion, will do the same in the 13/14-year-old final

The University of Stirling’s Craig Benson will lead the way in the Men’s 19/Over final of the 100m Breaststroke after posting a time just three-tenths of a second off his personal best.

In the 17/18 years age group City of Derby swimmer Gregory Butler lowered his lifetime best to 1:02.64, shaving just under two-hundredths of a second.

Nofio Clywd swimmer Rhodri Williams was in charge of the 16 years age group after the heats and will return in search of a podium finish later.

Billy Wotton who swims for the City of Oxford, took almost two seconds off his best time to be the fastest 15 year old at 1:06.44.

In the 13/14 year age group Cameron Williams of Dartmoor Darts was top of the pile with another best time of 1:05.06 to set a new British age group record.

Zara Mullooly (S10) of Guildford City, soon to make her international para-swimming debut, clinched the highest points total of 837 in the Women’s MC 400m Freestyle heats and set a new personal best of 4:46.43 in the process.

Hoddesdon’s Grace Harvey (S6) was hot on her heels with 816 points and Toni Shaw (S9) of Aberdeen Performance rounded off the top three with 776.

Paralympic silver medallist, Lewis White (S9) of City of Derby topped the Ponds Forge scoreboard in the Men’s MC 400m Freestyle heats with 861 points.

Nova Centurion’s Oliver Hynd (S9) and Michael Jones (S7) will line up alongside White with 776 and 760 points respectively

Aberdeen Performance swimmer Orla Adams cruised to the top of the rankings in the 19/Over age group of the Women’s 400m Individual Medley. The 17/18 years category saw Amy Bell of the City of Sheffield post the quickest time of the heats in her home pool.

City of Peterborough swimmer Amelia Monaghan pulled away from the rest of the field in the 16 years age group reducing her best time by more than a second to 4:54.04.

Madelaine Hardingham of City of Newcastle Swim Team will lead the way into the 15 years final and City of Glasgow’s Katie Shanahan doing the same over in the 13/14 years age group.

Martyn Walton of the University of Stirling topped the clocked in the quickest time in the 19/Over rankings in the first of this week’s 50m events, the Men’s 50m Backstroke.

Scott Gibson of East Kilbride (17/18 Years), Oliver Fairman of Poole (16 Years), Mark Ford of the City of Glasgow (15 Years) and Jacob Whittle of Derventio (13/14 Years) all lead the lead into their respective 50m Backstroke finals.

The final event of day one heats was the Women’s 50m Breaststroke and Katie Matts of Stockport Metro will take lane four in the 19/Over years final.

Guildford City swimmer Tatiana Belonogoff (17/18 Years), Kayla Van Der Merwe from Bournemouth College (16 Years), Angharad Evans of Ellesmere College (15 Years) and Jemimah Berkeley of RTW Monson (13/14 Years) all lead the lead into their respective 50m Breaststroke finals.
