Scott named National Lottery Awards Athlete of the Year

Following a public vote Olympic medallist, World, European and Commonwealth Champion Duncan Scott has been announced as The National Lottery Awards Athlete of the Year.

Duncan, who has had a standout 2018 season that saw him become the most successful Scot ever at a single Commonwealth Games after he claimed six medals.

More recently the 21-year-old represented Great Britain at the Glasgow 2018 European Championships where he soared to more medal glory including three continental titles.

Duncan said: “It is a real honour to be named ‘Athlete of the Year’ at this year’s National Lottery Awards. Without the support of National Lottery funding, I would never have achieved as much as I have in the pool.

“It’s fantastic for both me and swimming to recognised in this way, shining the light on the positive impact that funding is having on our sport.”
