Water Polo Qualification Tournament to be re-scheduled

British Swimming can confirm today (11th March) that following a decision from LEN, the U19 Water Polo Championships Qualification Tournament that was scheduled to take place in Manchester from 2-5 April, has been postponed.

Please find below the full LEN Statement. British Swimming, in conjunction with LEN, will confirm a new date, likely to be in May, in due course.


Given the current situation with the coronavirus (COVID-19) spreading throughout Europe and the implementation of stricter and stricter containment measures decided by various governments, LEN has taken the decision to put on hold the below competitions:

1. Water Polo Euro League Women Quarter Finals – Game II

The 4 games planned for 28 March 2020 are on hold and will be rescheduled for a later date. Consequently, the LEN Trophy Final 4 and LEN Euro League Women Final 4 will also most likely need to be rescheduled for a later date.

2. U19 Water Polo Championships Qualification Tournaments

The 4 qualification tournaments planned for 2-5 April 2020 in Istanbul (TUR), Netanya (ISR), Manchester (GBR) and Malta (MLT) are on hold and will be rescheduled for a later date in mid. May.

3. Water Polo Champions League – Preliminary Round – Match 11th

The 8 games scheduled for 10-11 April 2020 are on hold and will be rescheduled for a later date.

In the next days LEN will assess the new most appropriate dates for the above mentioned competitions. These new dates will be communicated promptly to all interested parties.

LEN will continue monitoring the situation and evaluate and inform you if further measures will be needed to unconditionally safeguard the health and safety of the athletes, coaches and all others involved in the events.
