Divers straight back at it in Budapest

9 May 2021

The big competitions keep coming for Britain's divers as they prepare to compete in the European Aquatics Championships - less than a week after the end of the Diving World Cup.

A first outing at the Tokyo Aquatics Centre - which will host this summer's Olympic Games - was a memorable one for the British athletes, who amassed three gold and two silver medals earlier this week, as well as securing all the Olympic quota spots remaining to them.

Now, Budapest's Duna Arena awaits for a 14-strong GB team at the European Championships, in what will be the final major competition opportunity ahead of Tokyo 2020. The diving schedule runs from Monday 10th May to Sunday 16th May.

All seven of the divers who won World Cup medals are ready to go again in the next week.

Tom Daley claimed individual and synchro gold from the 10m Platform - and he will dive in both events in Hungary, partnering Matty Lee in the synchro contest. Noah Williams will also go in the individual event.

Jack Laugher and Dan Goodfellow - another golden duo from Tokyo - will contest the Men's 3m Synchro, with Laugher and James Heatly competing in the individual Men's 3m Springboard after the latter won World Cup silver in that one.

Lois Toulson and Eden Cheng completed Britain's World Cup haul by claiming Women's 10m Synchro silver, and their platform partnership is set to continue at the European Championships. Toulson and Andrea Spendolini-Sirieix - who narrowly missed out on the podium on Wednesday - are the Women's 10m Platform individual divers.

Having secured a spot in the Women's 3m Synchro for the Olympics, Grace Reid and Kat Torrance will look to build on that World Cup display, with Reid and Scarlett Mew-Jensen set for the individual event and Torrance in contention to go from the 1m board. Sheffield Diving duo Yasmin Harper and Ross Haslam will also go in the Women's 1m Springboard and Men's 1m Springboard events respectively, as well as linking up in the Mixed 3m Synchro events.

With the Olympic Games now less than three months away, this European meet is seen as an important performance opportunity for all involved - and hopes will be high that they can challenge for medals across the programme after some eye-catching displays at the World Cup.
