Montreal the next stage for Britain's World Cup divers

4 May 2023

Twelve of Great Britain’s world class divers are set to take to the boards in Canada for the second leg of the World Aquatics Diving World Cup, which takes place from 5th-7th May.

The iconic Montreal Olympic Pool is set to host the event, which will feature athletes from twenty-two nations with a plethora of international accolades between them, as they all refine their diving lists and continue preparations in the lead up to this summers World Aquatics Championships in Fukuoka, Japan.

The first day of action sees the City of Leeds duo Jack Laugher and Dan Goodfellow take to the springboards for the Men’s 3m prelims, as the two Olympic medallists look to continue what has been a strong run of form as of late - finishing second and fourth respectively at the opening leg of the World Cup in Xi'an, China.

The pair are joined in qualifier action on the Friday by Andrea Spendolini-Sirieix and Lois Toulson, as the pair go individually in the Women’s 10m Platform prelims, ahead of teaming up for the Women’s 10m Synchro event on Saturday evening in a bid to add to the silver medal they collected earlier in the series.

All synchro events take place as straight finals, with Matty Lee and Noah Williams going together in the Men’s 10m Synchro during Friday evenings first medal opportunity, while Desharne Bent-Ashmeil returns from a shoulder injury to join Scarlett Mew Jensen for the Women’s 3m Synchro in the subsequent event on the schedule - reforming their British National Diving Cup winning partnership.

Laugher and Anthony Harding continue their development as a world leading pair in the Men's 3m Synchro to conclude Saturday's medal programme, while the remaining individual prelims take place earlier in the day. Yasmin Harper and Grace Reid, will be both be looking to bank further positive showings in the Women's 3m Springboard before attending the British Diving Championships later this month, while Williams and Ben Cutmore are Britain's representatives in the Men's 10m Platform event on the second day of competition in Montreal.

The closing day features the finals from both Friday and Saturday’s individual preliminaries, along with the Mixed 3m & 10m Team Event to round off the competition, which will see Spendolini-Sirieix, Lee, Laugher and Harper all go together to hopefully take the final medals of the competition.

Live results and broadcast coverage of the competition will be available across the weekend on the World Aquatics website.
